I love antioxidants!

Antioxidants block the oxidation process in the body by neutralizing free radicals. They are vitamins, minerals, and enzymes that have been shown to play an important role in preventing many diseases.  Oxidative stress happens when free radicals (harmful molecules produced) become too much for the antioxidant defenses of the body to neutralize.  These free radicals are damaging to the cells, DNA, and proteins due to their make-up. Since free-radicals have one or more unpaired electrons, making them unstable, they go about grabbing onto or donating electrons in the body, causing damage to the body.  Since free radicals come from endogenous (ex. inflammation) and exogenous (ex. pollution, smoke, strenuous exercise, etc) sources, they cannot be avoided.  This is why antioxidant supplementation has become so important.  With our toxic environment all around us and our natural bodily processes, antioxidant supplementation has become very popular and beneficial for many.

We are all toxic, regardless of how clean you eat, how much you exercise, how many IQ air filters you own, the plastics you avoid, etc.  We cannot avoid the environment entirely, and the environment is toxic; therefore, we are toxic.  So what do we do?  We trade our conventionally-grown food for organic food, we take vitamins, we detox, we purchase in-home air purifiers and water systems, we rip up our carpet and put down bamboo, we air out our dry cleaning, we throw out all the toxic cleaners, detergents, soaps, and shampoos and purchase the "green" products instead, and the list goes on.  But is this good enough?

Well, I found this amazing product called MitoLife (also known as Liquid Life) by MItogenxMitoLife is formulated to give much needed nourishment to the mitochondria.  To understand why this is important you must understand the importance of the mitochondria.  Mitochondria are organelles within each cell that produce energy. They are the powerhouses of the each cell. Simply put, they take in the nutrients, break them down, which then creates energy for the cell.  When there is damage to the mitochondria (ie. toxic overload), the dysfunctional mitochondria can cause damage to neural and muscle tissues specifically, because of their high energy demand. Dysfunction of the mitochondria, as you may have guessed, can lead to many different degenerative diseases that are becoming much to common among many people today.

"Oxidative damage to the mitochondrion is a major factor in the pathophysiology of these diseases, because the mitochondrial respiratory chain is the major source of reactive oxygen species (ROS) within most human cells. These diseases include Parkinson's disease, Friedreich's Ataxia, Wilson's Disease, mtDNA diseases, diabetes, motor neuron disease and the non-specific loss of vigor associated with aging. Oxidative damage to mitochondria also contributes to the pathophysiology of inflammation and ischaemic-reperfusion injury in stroke, heart attack and during organ transplantation and surgery." (1)

Having proper antioxidant supplementation is important in keeping the mitochondria healthy, as well as keeping them good at the vital role they serve in the body and in keeping the body healthy.  Because, as we know, a comprised mitochondria leads to low energy and "reduced cellular functions".  This compromise has been shown to be a contributing factor in many diseases, including diabetes, cancer, heart diseases, etc. (Mitogenx, 2011).  Antioxidants give the body the ability to fight off free radicals, which in turn will help to increase energy and overall health and vitality.  They help keep the mitochondria functioning at optimal levels, and by doing so, hopefully prevent many diseases that are related to mitochondrial dysfunction.

Something like MitoLife makes nourishing the mitochondria a simple and convenient task.  With just one ounce a day you get an incredible amount of antioxidants and phytonutrients that our bodies need to fight off the ever-increasing toxic-burden we face every day from our environment.
The ingredients per ounce include: Mangosteen Extract 250 mg, Elderberry Extract 250 mg, Wolfberry Extract 250 mg, Blackberry Leaf and Fruit 250 mg, a proprietary Blend of Green Tea Extract, Broccoli Extract 500mg, in a base of Aloe Vera and Purified Water, Citric Acid, Broccoli Extract, Calcium Ascorbate and Grape Juice including skin and seeds. All Organic, and every ounce is equivalent to about 3 1/2 pounds of the fruits and veggies used in the product!
